Product Innovator: Rutter's Farm Stores

Rutter's Farm Store interior

No stranger to innovation, Rutter’s Farm Stores recently opened the doors of its biggest store yet: a 9,100-square-foot “monument to convenience” in York Springs, Pa. Designed with the customer in mind, this new store pays tribute to the historical importance of nearby Gettysburg while offering tourists a place to rest, relax, refuel and recharge. The store caters to people on the go who are looking for good coffee and robust foodservice offerings. It also offers premium fuel, surcharge-free ATMs, supplies for professional drivers and other convenience-store staples.

Rutter's Farm Store coffee, foodservice

On the coffee island, Curtis brewers and Rutter’s Dairy offer multiple options for customizing beverages. Behind it, customers can snag made-to-order burgers, wraps and sandwiches in the R’Kitchen foodservice area.

Rutter's Farm Store aisles

The product mix in general is vast. Wide aisles help customers navigate well-stocked merchandisers. The store has approximately 2,000 square feet of space dedicated to professional driving accessories. The company has said, “We like to segment by lifestyle, life stage and product category needs.”

Rutter's Farm Store cold kiosk

This large cooler and merchandiser is full of better-for-you grab-and-go options such as yogurts, high-end juice options, salads, cheese and Rutter’s private label grab-and-go produce items, such as baby carrots.

Rutter's Farm Store Solatube

Natural light comes through skylights from Solatube, which enhances the store’s interior lighting. Energy-efficient LED lighting complements the natural light that comes through the skylights during the day.

Rutter's Farm Store restroom

The restrooms were built for heavy traffic; it is, after all, a truck and bus destination, too. They are equipped with quick-cleaning systems that help avoid long lines. There are also separate large sinks available for travelers.
