6 Beverages Unveiled at CRU

With dozens of conference sponsors sharing their latest product releases with retailers, retailer attendees of CSP's Convenience Retailing University got a glimpse of a half-dozen intriguing new beverages during the annual conference dedicated to category management.

New beers, bottled water, energy drinks and more dotted the conference product gallery in Glendale, Ariz., held Feb. 21-23.

Here are six that stood out.

1. Boston Beer Co.

The Boston Beer Co., Boston, featured new products in the subcategories of beer, cider and flavored malt beverages.

  • Sam '76 is a unique combination of lager and ale beers, providing "a distinct flavor that showcases the slight fruitiness of an ale with the balanced drinkability and smoothness of a lager," according to the company.
  • Angry Orchard Rose uses red-flesh apples from France. The crisp, juicy apples add a rosy blush and apple-forward taste with a dry finish to this new cider, according to the company. The drink is available in 12-ounce bottles and six-packs.
  • Wild Berry is the newest flavor in Boston Beer's Truly line of spiked sparkling water. The drink is a mix of strawberries and raspberries from California, with Marion blackberries and 5% alcohol by volume. It's available in 12-ounce bottles and cans.

2. Nestle Waters North America

Nestle Waters North America shared its newly reimaged sparkling versions of its regional water brands. With new packaging and branding, the Stamford, Conn.-based bottled-water company plans to apply its sparkling-water expertise from premium brands Perrier and S.Pellegrino and harness the brand loyalty from its regional spring water brands to the new releases.

3. Monster

Monster Beverages debuted its long-awaited Caffe Monster and Espresso Monster. Caffe Monster is packaged in 13.7-ounce glass bottles and is available in three flavors: Mocha, Vanilla and Salted Caramel. Imported from Italy, Espresso Monster is packaged in 8.4-ounce cans and available in two flavors: Espresso and Cream and Vanilla Espresso.

4. Dr Pepper Snapple Group

Dr Pepper Snapple Group's recent innovation ranges from new flavors to new packaging.

The company's line extension of its Canada Dry Ginger Ale combines ginger ale and lemonade. It launched in 2-liter and 12-pack bottles and regionally in 20-ounce bottles in January 2018.

DPSG also promoted new packaging for Bai Bubbles, ditching the black cans for white ones, and Core Hydration will get a 28-ounce plastic bottle later this year.

5. Premier Protein Clear

Premier Nutrition Corp., known for Power Bar and Premier Protein shakes, is adding Premier Protein Clear to its lineup. The performance drink is geared to the isotonic door in convenience stores. It is available in two flavors—Tropical Punch and Orange Mango—in 16-ounce bottles. It's packed with 20 grams of protein and 90 calories.

6. Hype Energy

Hype Energy introduced two new flavors of its namesake energy drink, as well as new multipack packaging. The 16.9-ounce drinks are now available in Tropical and Cherry Blend flavors. And its original flavor is now available in shrink-wrapped two-packs and three-packs.
