13 Summertime Beverage Rollouts

Summertime has arrived, and beverage suppliers have launched new marketing campaigns or revived existing ones around seasonal favorites and package preferences, as well as to create a buzz on social-media platforms.

1. Strongbow

In June, Strongbow Hard Cider brought back its renowned Original Dry offering, a dry cider made with a mixture of bittersweet and culinary apples for a crisp, less sweet taste. Original Dry contains no artificial flavors or colors and 5% alcohol by volume (ABV). The variety comes in 16.9-ounce single-serve cans and four-packs of 16.9-ounce cans. “We’re bringing this flavor back to the U.S. to provide our consumers with the drier, crisp and refreshing taste of Strongbow they’ve been pressing us for,” said Jessica Robinson, vice president, portfolio brands, for parent company Heineken USA. The cans are first available on-premise before flowing to off-premise channels.

2. Sparkling Ice

Wrapped in distinct blue and red packaging with a question mark inside the brand’s ice-cube logo, new limited-edition Sparkling Ice Mystery Flavor offers a clear carbonated beverage balanced with fizz, according to the company. It contains zero calories and zero sugar and is packed with antioxidants and vitamins. Around the launch, the brand is activating a social-media-based sweepstakes where consumers can share their flavor guesses by using the hashtag #WhatTheFlavorSweeps with a chance to win more than $45,000 in prizes. The drink is available for a suggested retail price (SRP) range of $1.19 to $1.29.

3. Icee

In the dispensed-beverage segment, Icee has partnered with Warheads to add a sour and spicy twist to its frozen-drink lineup. Available flavors include Icee Warheads Watermelon, Warheads Hotheads Lava Lime, Warheads Hotheads Piping Hot Pineapple and Warheads Hotheads Molten Mango. Warheads Watermelon offers a sour experience, Lava Lime sour and then sweet, while Pineapple and Molten Mango bring the heat with the taste of tropical pineapple or sour mango.

4. Waterloo Sparkling Water

Waterloo Sparkling Water has a new Mango flavor that’s made with true-to-fruit flavor and packaged in a BPA-free can, according to the company. In addition to the new Mango flavor, Waterloo offers Original, Black Cherry, Watermelon, Coconut, Lemon, Lime and Grapefruit flavors, all sold in 12-cans and 8-can fridgepack cases. All varieties contain no citric acid, no fluoride and are kosher-certified.

5. Tecate Light

Tecate Light from Heineken USA Inc. introduced a new 7-ounce bottle in a 20-pack. Launched in June, the pack is initially rolling out to consumers in Arizona, Texas, New Mexico and select areas in California. The launch of the Tecate Light 7-ounce 20-packs is being supported by displays and POS materials in both English and Spanish, on-premise sampling events and halo support from TV advertising.

6. Red Diamond

Vowing to shake up the slushy machine, Red Diamond Fruzen Frozen Drinks consist of Fruzen teas available in Citrus Green Tea and Peach Black Tea flavors and 100% fruit juice offerings in Strawberry, Blue Raspberry and Pina Colada. The frozen-tea options capitalize on the growing demand for real tea in a new format that today’s beverage lovers seek, according to the company.

7. Smirnoff Spiked Sparkling Seltzer

Smirnoff Spiked Sparkling Seltzer Raspberry Rose from Diageo is making its debut just in time for summer. The newest hard seltzer flavor delivers a crisp, refreshing premium malt beverage with a bubbly blend of raspberry and rose flavor, according to the company. The drink contains 90 calories per 12-ounce serving, zero sugar and no artificial sweeteners. The new offer joins Berry Lemonade, Cranberry Lime and Watermelon flavors in the lineup.

8. Ah-So Rose

Ah-So Rose wine is created using traditional farming techniques, careful harvesting by hand and exclusive deployment of 100% free-run juicing, a production process that preserves the clean, fruit taste grown in the vineyards, according to the manufacturer. Ah-So Rose is exclusively produced at the Lopez de LaCalle Artazu property in Navarra, Spain, and will be initially released in 22 U.S. states. It is packaged in four 250-mL (8.2-ounce) cans to a box and available for an SRP of $19.99.

9. Mountain Valley Spring Water

With roots ensconced in southern culture, Mountain Valley Spring Water expands on its successful sparkling-water portfolio with a White Peach flavor. The premium water company also offers top-selling favorites, including Key Lime Twist and Blackberry Pomegranate sparkling flavors. The lightly flavored sparkling waters are popular with baristas and cocktail mixologists, according to the company.

10. Xyience

Xyience unveiled a can redesign along with a new four-pack package. The redesign features a crisp white background and larger, more prominent placement of the product’s zero-calorie/zero-sugar message. Each can includes a highly visible color band designed to differentiate flavors, the company said. Top-selling flavors include Cherry Lime, Mango Guava and Frostberry Blast.

11. Bud Light Orange

In time for summer occasions, Bud Light (Anheuser-Busch Inc.) is expanding its citrus portfolio with a refreshed Bud Light Lime and the addition of Bud Light Orange. Both light lagers are brewed with real lime and orange peels, delivering a clean and crisp taste that highlights natural citrus flavors, the company said.

12. Henry’s Hard Sparkling Water

With only 88 calories and no sugar per serving, Henry’s Hard Sparkling Water from MillerCoors is now available in 12-ounce slim cans. The lightly fruit-flavored hard sparkling waters feature a bright effervescence and crystal-clear appearance, the company said. Three natural flavors include Lemon Lime, Passion Fruit and Strawberry Kiwi.

13. Sonic Freezer Bars

Not beverages themselves but based on them, quick-service restaurant Sonic Drive-Ins launched a line of frozen novelty items at the retail level. The treats are based on Sonic’s popular frozen beverages and shakes. The line includes Slush Pops, Freezer Bars, Gelatins, Puddings and more, each available in multiple flavors.
